The Experiment: Rita Hayworth Pin Curls

July 17, 2010 at 6:07 am (Uncategorized)

Here is the photo diary of today. Starting from my zombie like state throughout the day.

Introduction: This experiment is to see how well pin curls will hold throughout the day with thick medium length hair.

Hypothesis: By doing this, I expect that one of two things will happen. 1) It will fail and the curls will relax throughout the day. 2) It will be a success and minimal adjustments will be necessary to keep the look all day.

Methods: Pin curling the hair and let it set for 5 hours.

Results: The results were successful. As seen by the photos, the look changed minimally after 12 hours.

Conclusions: Pin curling is a superior method of curling hair, however, tedious or time consuming.

I Work for NEMESIS

July 16, 2010 at 9:35 pm (Uncategorized)

I am going to be in a movie that one of my friends from RHPS is producing this weekend. It is called I Work For NEMESIS. It is a spy comedy set in the 1950’s era. She put out a call for extras and I was so excited to be a part of it. I have never been in a movie before. TV, magazines, theater, choirs, sure, but never a movie.

The scene I am going to be a part of is the Beatnik Bar scene. I bought the cutest retro outfit and am going to do my hair in a Rita Hayworth style. I knew that in order for the curls to hold, I would need to figure out how to pin curl my hair. Fortunately there are some really good tutorials online that were a great help.

My favorite tutorial had to be Adore Pin Curling! by ClassicRetroGlamor on youtube.

She is very thorough and easy to follow. She does, however, make it look far too easy. I plan to show my video of my first try. There were a lot of heavy sighs and burning fire arms.

Since I am not sure how it is going to work out with my hair lasting all day, I decided to do a trial run today. I took pictures of the process as well as one at 9:00am, 12:pm, and again today at 5:00pm. Hopefully this will be a good indicator of whether or not the hair will stay. It is already 2:30pm and, I have to say, it is pretty much the same as it was at 9:00am. It looks like the experiment is a success. I will post the pictures tomorrow. For now, here are some glam shots I took from my Mac at work.
